#1. Sky Tower Auckland
The icon of Auckland City. The name represents the structure. You can go to the top and have a splendid view of Auckland City. Day or Night has its own charm. At night the tower is decorated with mesmerizing ambient lights. Fine dining restaurants are available at the top, and the restaurant floor is rotating while you enjoy your meal, spoiling you with 360 bird views of Auckland City. Not only that, on the top, I mean the real top, you can challenge yourself for a 360 walk around the tower lips or even perform the sky jump to the ground.
Go just before sunset so that you can see the two different views of the city.

#2. The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa
This is an amazing museum that you must see when you are in Wellington. Visitors go to the museum specifically for see largest Maori culture, history, and art museum outside of Auckland. Visitors went to the museum to specifically for see the Gallipoli display that has large-scale models and three-dimensional displays of the heroes associated with this episode of the war, as well as a thorough and thoughtful history of the conflict and the tragedy of the hundreds that lost their lives there.

#3. Christchurch Botanic Gardens
One of Christchurch’s highlights and is right in city center. It is a beautiful place to take a stroll. The gardens have something to offer every season! You can visit it multiple times and still discover new areas and plants. The gardens are well maintained and you always find something interesting that you’ve not seen before. There are lots of quiet spots for a sit down too and areas for children to play.

#4. Redwoods Treewalk
Excellent to visit for everyone! There is the main canopy bridge track to walk and an extra canopy walk to climb, although a shorter track above the main. You can take young children up, however, they have to walk on their own or be pushed along in special purpose strollers made for the canopy walk (provided at premises) absolutely no child is carried on this walk. The nighttime walk is highly recommended.

#5. Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland
Great place to view active craters, Champagne Pool, and Artist’s Palette with its beautiful colors. There are 3 different walking tracks with the 3rd one being the longest requiring a bit more fitness with climbing up & downstairs.
The place was great to get an idea of all the thermal activity. It has a great variety of things to see so if it’s the only place you’ll get to witness this nature, you won’t be disappointed.

#6. Larnach Castle
Well worth the visit if in the Dunedin area. One of those places that if you are into architecture and history plus gardens would be amazing. Dogs are allowed if they are on a leash.

#7. Te Puia – Rotorua, NZ
This is a must-visit place in Rotorua. You can feel the history of the country. Te Puia, is home to the largest active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere, Pōhutu Geyser, as well as the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute – training the next generation of artists from around the country.

#8. Canterbury Museum
Lot of things to explore. It is a good place for both kids and adults. Every corner is worth your time and very interesting. Highlights: the Asian Art, most fascinating and beautifully made artifacts; birds hall, so cool; the Antarctic, just amazing.

#9. Orana Wildlife Park
There are many kinds of animals here, and they all seem to be well taken care of. The staff are friendly and sincerely care about the health of the animals. The layout of the park is very reasonable-you can walk around the zoo in order to allocate feeding time wisely to increase the chance of contact with animals. It’s easy to stay here for 3-4 hours.

#10. Willowbank Wildlife Reserve
It has been well laid out so that you follow a meandering trail through different areas and enclosures to see the different animals. Great place to spend a few hours and see native wildlife.

#11. Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne
Great place to visit to see native birds and habitats. Lots of Kaka on view, including saddleback, robin, fantail, Whitehead, and tui. Highly recommend this place if you are in our going through Wellington. Lots of routes to hike and stuff to see. Walking the trails, riding the electric boat, and seeing so many tuataras are memorable experiences for every tourist.

#12. Wellington Cable Car
A must-do for anyone visiting Wellington. Very interesting display and museum at the top. there were pretty tunnels with pretty lights, which were fun to look at. it’s also quite a unique experience since it is sort of like a mix of a bus and a train and we go through areas with houses and stuff so it felt like it was from a tv show or something.

#13. Mount Victoria Lookout
Some pretty amazing 360° views of Wellington and the surrounding. You can walk, drive, bike, or even run up there should you wish. Check the weather condition, particularly the wind chill/speed, and go when it’s sunny. There’s also a bus going to the peak or you can drive but I’d recommend hiking as well.

#14. Auckland War Memorial Museum
It’s a very educational and cultural area to visit, with plenty of proud historical sights to see. Every nook and cranny bears witness to Maori culture’s rich legacy. There is also a section dedicated to animals. From dinosaurs to small insects, you can see how the animal kingdom has evolved. #15. Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki
One of the best art museums anywhere in the world. The museum and special exhibits are even available for Free for locals and foreign visitors alike during Auckland Anniversary Day. The main foyer inside the gallery often hosts various interesting artworks, some are dynamic/interactive. The gallery also has a great collection of Victorian-era art pieces. If you’re a member, you can get some nice perks as well, such as free entry to the paid exhibition.

#16. Auckland Zoo
It was very nice for a first-time visitor. The African safari trail is the best part. Set aside a good 2-3 hours especially if you have kids. They are taking back the elephant so make sure you arrange a visit as soon as possible if you have a plan to visit the zoo in near future. Animals had lots of space and they seemed playful and happy.

#17. SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium

Excellent place to go with a family, parking can be challenging but it’s worth queueing and staying calm really good display on entry not too long of a queue to pay to go in with amazing activities for the children to do.

A beautiful quick and short getaway from the city to refresh yourself with just having a look at those huge age-old trees, ducks in the ponds, and lots of different flowers in the winter gardens. Prepare for more than half a day time, and do plan to sit down and relax from time to time before enjoying the journey.
